"Tabanović" Gravel Pit

When the gravel pit operated in the 1970s stopped operations, the groundwater flooded the pits and created three lakes. The water is speculated to have come from the nearby river Drina, as the quality is exceptional and there are a few underwater springs that produce very cold water year-round.

The lakes have been stocked with various species of fish to create a good fishing attraction. On our dives we found catfish, pike, zander and various smaller fish. In addition to that, the lake has a healthy population of clams, crayfish and tiny freshwater jellyfish, indicating excellent water quality. At some point a few beavers made the lake their home, speculated to be beavers released into a nearby body of water called Zasavica around 2019.

The lake doesn't stay clean by itself. The diving and rescue society "Zaslon" organizes a yearly effort to keep the lake clean and safe. The "Dani ronjenja i ekologije" (Diving and Ecology Days), organized before the swimming season start, cleans both the bottom of the lake and the shore of any trash, and prepares the lake for a safe swimming season!

The lake is somewhat hidden and the best way to find it is to navigate to the local company Certex and follow the dirt road right of their property.
